Medi-Cal Deadline Approaching — Protect Health & Housing for Neighbors

Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass joined the Mayor’s Fund for Los Angeles and healthcare leaders in urging all Angelenos – regardless of their immigration status – to enroll in Medi-Cal ahead of December 31 to protect their healthcare and housing stability. Beginning January 1, 2026, only Angelenos who meet federal immigration requirements will be eligible to enroll in Medi-Cal.
At a recent press conference, Mayor Bass emphasized that healthcare costs are a major driver of homelessness in Los Angeles, and losing access to Medi-Cal could push thousands of families into financial hardship and housing instability. The Mayor’s Fund We Are LA program is offering free enrollment assistance seven days a week at (213) 584-1808, with caseworkers available to help navigate applications, language barriers, and technical challenges.
