The Mayor’s Fund for Los Angeles joins all of Los Angeles in mourning Dolores Huerta. Her work and impact live on and will never die.

Huerta and Conway Collis, President and CEO of the Mayor’s Fund for Los Angeles, founded the End Child Poverty California Coalition, sponsored by GRACE. The coalition of what is now 180 organizations helped pass 43 measures to lift California children and families out of poverty, among the highest in the nation.

“Very few people in American history have had as profound and positive an impact on the lives of all people as Dolores Huerta,” said Collis. In fighting for justice, equality and opportunity for Latinos, women and all those who face barriers to living the promise of America, she made our country and the world a better place for everyone.”

“When she and I co-chaired the End Child Poverty California Coalition, she not only helped lead rallies and advocacy efforts, she also organized and insisted on full attendance at day-long goal-setting and strategy sessions,” Collis continued. “Her work lives on and will never die. The memory of her warmth, friendship and unceasing, indomitable energy and wisdom will never leave us, but her loss still leaves a hole in our hearts.”

The Mayor’s Fund for Los Angeles honors Huerta’s legacy by continuing the fight against homelessness and housing insecurity. A safe, stable home is foundational to lifting communities out of poverty and building a better tomorrow.
